The Story of Crystal Coast Sanctuary and Cruise Beaufort NC: A Legacy of Coastal Hospitality and Adventure
Nestled in the heart of Beaufort, North Carolina, where maritime charm meets southern hospitality, Crystal Coast Sanctuary and Cruise Beaufort NC together offer a unique, family-friendly coastal retreat like no other. Their story is not just one of comfort and adventure—it’s a story of passion, purpose, and a deep-rooted love for the sea.
The Origins of Crystal Coast Sanctuary
Crystal Coast Sanctuary began as a dream to create a peaceful haven for families, friends, and nature lovers seeking a genuine coastal experience. The founders, long-time residents of Beaufort, saw the need for a vacation rental that provided more than just a place to sleep. They envisioned a space that felt like home, surrounded by natural beauty and infused with the spirit of the Crystal Coast.
With thoughtful design, the Sanctuary was built to balance modern amenities with coastal charm. From its breezy porches to its serene interiors, every detail was created to invite guests into relaxation. Its location—just minutes from downtown Beaufort, local beaches, and scenic waterways—makes it an ideal hub for families wanting to explore and reconnect.
Over the years, Crystal Coast Sanctuary has hosted guests from all over the country, many of whom return year after year, drawn by the warm welcome, peaceful ambiance, and proximity to unforgettable coastal experiences.
Cruise Beaufort NC
Ann and John have owned a live aboard boat for over 20 years and love showing others around the area aboard their beautiful Beneteau Swift Trawler. They can host up to 6 guests on this relaxed 2 hour trip, comfortable for all ages and abilities (easy access, 1 step from the dock)
Weather permitting, we’ll start our trip by heading under the new Beaufort bridge towards Morehead City. Keep your eyes open for dolphin and osprey! We’ll head towards the MHC Port (one of the deepest on the US east coast) where we’ll likely see several tug boats and large ships from around the world. Next, we’ll cruise the busy Morehead City waterfront and check out the sights and then head back to Beaufort passing the US Coast Guard Station, historic Fort Macon, and the Beaufort Inlet.
From this area called the Turning Basin we will pass Radio Island (home to the 1st radio station in Carteret County from 1940) and Pivers Island (home to The North Carolina Coastal Reserve, National Estuarine Research Reserve, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Lab, and Duke University’s Marine Laboratory) and we will see the west end of The Rachel Carson Nature Preserve as we enter into Taylors Creek and the beautiful Beaufort Waterfront.
Being a favorite stop on the intracoastal waterway for many boaters traveling from Florida to Maine or doing the Great Loop we’ll check out all the big boats. Once in Taylors Creek we’ll be flanked by downtown Beaufort on one side and the Rachel Carson Coastal Estuarine Reserve, a collection of islands (Carrot Island, Town Marsh, Bird Shoal, Middle Marshes, and Horse Island) and salt marshes which encompasses a total area of 2,315 acres.
This is home to a wild pony population dating back since the 1940’s (they live on the local saltmarsh cordgrass, and fresh water that is retrieved from digging just beneath the surface) and to over 200 different species of permanent and migrating birds including osprey (sea eagles). Then its back to our dock passing the beautifully painted local shrimp boats on the way. Bring your cameras!!!
For those couples considering an unusual wedding day why don’t you ELOPE on our boat:)) It will be quite memorable.. Or, if you are planning a wedding reception at a Beaufort or Morehead waterfront venue and want an unusual “getaway” we can help with that too. Just give Ann a call for details!
